What Can I Expect With Web Design?

Edited

We believe a website is more than just a smart, beautiful, and functional digital space; it’s a way to enhance the user experience, inspire positive change, and intuitively engage your audience. With passion and precision, we carefully consider every detail to help you stand out during web design, from transitions to micro-interactions.

To ensure your website meets your unique goals, reflects your mission, and encourages users to take action, we’ve streamlined our web design process into four clear and effective phases:

Phase 1: Project Kickoff, Research & Inspiration

Before we start designing, we need to understand your vision. This phase is all about gathering insights and setting the direction for your new website.

  • Initial Discovery Meeting: We’ll begin with introductions and discuss your high-level goals and milestones. This conversation helps us understand what you want to achieve and any challenges you face with your current website.

  • Research: We conduct a thorough competitor analysis and brand assessment to uncover what makes you unique and identify opportunities to differentiate your site.

  • Inspiration: We develop moodboards that showcase different colors, fonts, and styles. These visual inspirations serve as a foundation for the design elements we’ll incorporate into your new website.

Phase 2: Low-Fidelity Wireframes

In this phase, we create the blueprint for your website, focusing on structure and user experience.

  • Wireframes: We design mobile-first wireframes, or a skeleton of your new website, that outline how your site's content will be organized and how users will navigate it. Starting with a small screen first, we ensure a seamless user experience for your website that is easy to use and digest as we scale up to larger devices.

  • Sitemap: This will inform how we organize the website’s pages.

  • Prototype: We'll build interactive wireframe prototypes that show how users will interact with your content using Figma.

Phase 3: Website Design

Now comes the exciting part—bringing the wireframes to life with stunning visuals and engaging interactions.

  • Design Development: We begin with designing the homepage for both desktop and mobile views to demonstrate scalability and adaptability. Once the homepage is finalized, we move on to the other key landing pages.

  • Interactive Elements: We utilize Figma to suggest and design interactive features such as rollovers, pop-ups, accordions, parallax, fly-ins, or other visual elements creating a dynamic and engaging user experience.

  • Accessibility: We ensure our designs meet WCAG Guidelines, making your website accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.

Other information to know during this phase:

  • Duration: 8–10 weeks

  • Output: Designs for mobile, tablet, and desktop screens, as well as a comprehensive web user interface (UI) style guide.

Phase 4: Development

If you choose, we can build your new website, bringing our designs to life with robust, best-in-class code. This phase is the longest of the entire project and the most extensive.

We’ll need to meet regularly to confirm the project is coming together as expected. These frequent reviews will allow us to make changes quickly instead of waiting until development is near completion.

Output during this process looks like:

  • CMS Development: We use Webflow and/or WordPress to implement your content and approved designs, ensuring your website is easy to manage and update.

  • Security: We implement all necessary security measures to protect your site and its users.

  • Accessibility & SEO: We build with best practices for compliance in mind, ensuring your site is accessible and structured for optimal search engine rankings.

  • Quality Assurance: We validate all code against W3C standards for markup and test browser compatibility.

The Pillars of Pulp's Web Design Process

Creating websites that not only look stunning but also deliver exceptional user experiences is essential, that's why we focus on four critical pillars to support our web design process.

These pillars ensure your website is a powerful tool that communicates your brand's story, engages your audience, and meets the highest standards of functionality and accessibility.

Creative Strategy

When designing your website, we capture the essence of your organization's values, missions, and goals then create a visual representation that resonates on a deep, emotional level for greater impact. Our strategic approach helps to ensure that what we design will effectively communicate your brand’s mission and resonate with your audience(s) crafting a memorable digital experience that inspires action.

Iterative Design

We believe in the power of collaboration and that the most successful results occur when we bring our collective expertise to the table. We engage regularly, looking for input on concepts or draft designs—because we’d much rather show you rough works-in-progress more frequently to get to a great place quickly and repeatedly.

We find this approach to be cost-effective. Allowing us to communicate every step of the way, work on concepts, and remain a dedicated partner to your internal team.

User-Centric

To create an inclusive and engaging experience, we combine graphic design, interactive elements, and best practices in accessibility and information architecture. This creates a visual system that is clever, user-friendly, intuitive, and effective.

Information accessibility will be achieved by establishing a storytelling approach—merging and modifying content into a simple and easy-to-digest visual flow.

For your new website, we’ll follow compliance standards set forth by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) which we’ll also test against the WAVE tool. This will ensure that people of all abilities, including those with disabilities and impairments, can understand and navigate your website. This includes providing features like support for screen readers, providing alternative text descriptions for images, and including enough contrast between colors used in your new color palette.

Quality Assurance

We perform thorough testing to ensure your site works flawlessly on all devices and browsers. Using BrowserStack, we test responsiveness and loading times across several environments (desktop, tablet, mobile) to ensure your website looks great and functions error-free everywhere.

We also test in major desktop browsers like Apple (Safari), Google (Chrome), Microsoft (Edge), and Mozilla (Firefox) and even ensure that older versions like Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 for Windows users get an appropriate, possibly different, experience. A single-column design for Internet Explorer 7 and below for Windows will be implemented but we won’t test in other older browsers unless you specify otherwise. We can provide a separate estimate if you need an enhanced design for an older browser.

As for mobile, we test our work in Safari for iOS then test Google Chrome and Firefox for Android 4.1.
